needapc helps you find a laptop that fits by asking a few questions and scoring our catalogue against your answers. We have tried to collect as little as possible. This page explains exactly what that means.

No account, no sign-up

You do not need to create an account or give us your name, email address, or any contact details to use needapc. There is nothing to log in to.

Your questionnaire answers

When you complete the questionnaire, your answers — things like your budget, what you will mainly use the laptop for, and how portable you need it to be — are used to work out your recommendations. They are held for your current visit so we can show your results, and they may be encoded into the web address of your results page so that page is shareable and bookmarkable. If you share that link, anyone who opens it can see the same answers and results. We do not attach your answers to your identity, because we do not know who you are.

Cookies we use

We use a small number of essential cookies that are needed for the site to work. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

• Session cookie — a standard Django session cookie that lets the site remember your progress between pages during a single visit.
• CSRF cookie — a security cookie that protects the forms on the site from cross-site request forgery.

The cookie notice you may have seen remembers that you have dismissed it using your browser's local storage on your own device. That preference never leaves your browser and is not a cookie.

Analytics

To understand how the site is used and to keep it fast, we use Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. These are privacy-friendly by design: they measure aggregate usage and performance (such as page views and loading speed) without using cookies and without building a profile of you across sites. You can read more in Vercel's analytics privacy documentation.

Third parties

The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes technical request data (such as your IP address) as part of serving pages, as any web host does. Our laptop catalogue links out to retailers such as Amazon UK; once you follow a link, that retailer's own privacy policy applies.

Your rights

Because we do not hold accounts or personal profiles, there is no personal record for us to look up, change, or delete. Under UK GDPR you still have rights over any personal data — if you have a question about how needapc handles data, you are welcome to get in touch.

Changes to this notice

If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page. Please check back from time to time.
